City Kicks off 2010 with New Year's Day Run

After sounding the starter pistol, Mayor Hau Lung-bin joined residents at the New Year’s Day Run in front of Taipei City Hall on January 1. He welcomes everyone to run for a bright future for the city, as well as for a healthy and happy lifestyle for all.
During his address to the runners, Hau pointed out that one of the main events for the city government will be the opening of the Taipei Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. As one of the participating cities, Taipei City Government will be running two major exhibitions – one on the city’s waste recycling policy and another on its municipal wireless broadband network.
Another major event for the city will be the 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition. He hopes that community and neighborhood will join hands with the city government to work on renovations and beautification of local streetscapes, allowing the city to present its best character before visitors.
Responding to media questions, the mayor said he is glad that the public had an exciting time at the New Year Countdown Party on December 31. He thanked all the participants for cooperating with the city government, making the event a success.
On the topic of public transportation, the mayor remarked that MRT passenger volume hit a record high of 2.16 million riders on New Year’s Eve.
