Middle School Sports Meet Medalists Recognized at City Hall
On June 2, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin presided over an award ceremony honoring the young athletes participating in the 2010 National Middle School Sports Meet. The team from Taipei is the biggest winner of this year’s games, bringing back 173 medals – 20 more than last year’s record.
The mayor handed out the awards to the medalists, praising them for their accomplishments. Hau indicated that the persistence and determination demonstrated by the athletes, their couches, and their training staff over long periods help the team bring home this top honor. Their achievement makes the city’s residents very proud.
Hau also pointed out that the city government will offer these young athletes suitable environment to help them develop their talents; he also expected these athletes to achieve even greater deeds in the future.
Taipei’s young athletes claimed 173 medals at the sports contest, including 56 gold medals, 58 silver medals, and 59 bronze medals.
