Mayor Hau Lung-bin accompanied government delegates on a visit to the one-stop service station at Taipei City Hospital (TCH) Women and Children Branch on January 6. The facility allows sexual assault victims to file police report and receive medical attention at the same location.
The members of the delegation include Minister of Justice Wang Ching-feng and Head Prosecutor Tsai Ching-hsiang of Shilin District Prosecutors Office.
Hau said he is in complete support of the one-stop service approach implemented by TCH. If the case of sex crimes, he urged victims to seek help at the service stations and preserve the evidence of the assault.
Minister Wang hoped that all local governments would adopt Taipei’s approach. The mayor replied that TCH will be more than happy to share its knowhow with other municipal governments.
The City founded its first one-stop service station in June of 2008. By the end of 2009, additional facilities were established at TCH Zhongxiao Branch and TCH Yangming Branch. New one-stop service stations will begin operations at TCH Heping Branch, TCH Zhongxing Branch, TCH Renai Branch, and Wan Fang Hospital starting February 1.
The one-stop service, available at the aforementioned hospitals, provides sexual assault victims with a private and friendly environment for medical examination and injury diagnosis. Police officers and social workers will be available to assist victims with crime reporting procedures. This will eliminate the need for victims to make separate visits to a number of agencies and lessen the pain of having to describe the details of victimization to different officers.
