TCAPO Considers Establishing More Dog Parks
Located inside the parameters of Yingfeng Riverside Park and next to the Keelung River, the Yingfeng Dog Park is the first outdoor venue in Taiwan set aside especially for dogs, allowing them to exercise and play off-leash. The one-hectare green oasis was founded by the city government in 2006 for the purpose of promoting animal rights and strengthening the well-being of dogs. The park features a number of facilities offering dogs and dog owners a clean and comfortable environment. Some examples of the facilities inside the park include climbing frames, washing stands, trashcans for droppings disposal, and other convenient arrangements. The park also offers separate enclosures for small-size dogs, as well as a lawn wide enough for large-size dogs to enjoy a good run. The management will construct additional exercise facilities later on this year. Despite the existence of Yingfeng Dog Park, there is a growing voice calling for more dog playgrounds in Taipei City. Taipei City Animal Protection Office indicated that it will survey potential sites for new dog parks in the next six months. The agency welcomes residents and companies to contribute their opinions on this issue by sending it to either the Mayor’s Mailbox or the agency director’s mailbox.
