Organized by Taipei City Police Department (TCPD), the events for the 2009 Crime Prevention Day was held at the plaza before the RT-Mart Neihu branch No.2 on November 7.
This year’s activities featured the measures to prevent bicycle theft, to deal with fraud calls and to protect the safety of women and children. To raise the public’s awareness of securing their bikes, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin and the TCPD Commissioner Hsieh Hsiu-neng biked into the venue; Hau also demonstrated the right way to lock a bike properly.
Speaking before the participants, Hau noted that the increasing popularity of cycling led to the rising threats of bicycle theft. Despite the reduction in overall crime rate, bicycle theft and fraud ring still plague the public security. Hau said he hopes more residents could join hands with the law enforcement agencies in crime prevention, ensuring a safer living environment.
In addition, Hau reiterated the city government’s policy of “zero tolerance”, promising that even petty crimes will be handled with much attention by the police.
