Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the paratransit bus donation ceremony with the chairman of Capital Group on July 15. He praised the enterprise for its generous donation, serving as a model for other companies.
Hau encourages residents and private companies to join the rank of givers. These actions not only help disadvantaged and disabled people, but assist individuals in need as well.
There are a total of 110,000 disabled people living in Taipei City. With a fleet of 145 buses (147 with the new vehicles), the city estimates that the paratransit service makes an average of 30,000 trips per month, with passenger count topping 55,000. The fares of the paratransit buses are roughly one-third less than those of standard cabs.
According to the mayor, the fleet will have to expand to 165 vehicles to satisfy the needs of residents with disability.
At the ceremony, Capital Group Chairman T.W Chen presented a giant key to the mayor, representing the handing-over of the vehicles. In return, he received a certificate of gratitude from the City, thanking the enterprise for its generous act. Chen hopes that the two paratransit vehicles can spread compassion to every corners of this city.
