Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the end-of-the-year tea party organized by Neihu Huguang Church and organizations from the community on December 30. The attendees took the opportunity to take pictures with the mayor.
During his speech, Hau praised church members and participating organizations for sponsoring the “Light of Neihu” and “Compassion of Neihu” charity programs. The “Light of Neihu” program offers students after school companionship and support, while the “Compassion of Neihu” program provides elders with a variety of services, from driving them to appointments to delivering meals to their doorstep.
Since the beginning of the programs four years ago, over 1,500 students and 5,500 senior citizens have enjoyed the benefits of these services.
He took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the sponsors including Capital Bus, Grace Lutheran Church, Hsu Chun-fang Memorial Church, and the offices of local borough chiefs.
Hau recalled that during his a visit several years ago, one of the young program participants showed him a math test with a perfect grade. The student used to get poor grades at school, but soon regained confidence through the assistance of program volunteers.
The mayor remarked that the efforts of the organizations and volunteers help make Taipei not only a healthy city, but also a city filled with joy and happiness.
