The 2009 IT Month gets underway at the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC) between November 28 and December 6. The exhibition will open from 10 AM to 6 PM. The organizers expect 770,000 visitors during this period, with an average of 100,000 visitors a day. To minimize the impact on local traffic, the organizers remind residents to take public transportation. The City announced that there will be transfer buses traveling between MRT Taipei City Hall Station and the venues at TWTC. The bus stop for the free shuttle service is located next to Exit 3 of the MRT station.
In addition, the City also announced that the 1-day basic rate for the YouBike rental service will be reduced to NT$20 during this period. Users can rent the YouBike at MRT SYS Memorial Hall Station or MRT Taipei City Hall Station, ride to TWTC, and return their bikes at the rental stations outside Hall 1 or Hall 3.
During this period, the hourly fee for public parking facilities in the neighborhood will see a hike from NT$30 to NT$60. These facilities include City Hall Front Parking Lot, Songshao Parking Lot, Xinyi Plaza Parking Lot, Zhongxin Parking Lot, and parking spaces on the north side of Songgao Road. For more information on YouBike, please refer to the YouBike website (Chinese).
Due to the overwhelming number of attendees and ongoing MRT construction in Xinyi District, the City hopes drivers can avoid using roads in the vicinity during this period if not visiting the exhibition. Traffic updates for drivers will be displayed on changeable message signs (CMS) in the area to provide timely information on detours.
