The Department of Labor (DOL) will be holding the “Taipei-Manila Friendship Culture Day” at the plaza in front of the South-2 Exit of Taipei Main Station (Zhongxiao W. Road, across from Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store) on July 11. The event will take place between noon and 4:30 PM.
In light of the 2010 Taipei International Flora Expo opening in November, the theme of this year’s Filipino cultural day will focus on the national flower of the Philippines – the Sampaguita Jasmine.
Director of Labor Affairs Reydeluz D. Conferido from the Manila Economic and Cultural Office and DOL Commissioner Chen Yeh-shin will celebrate the occasion with the audience. The representatives of the two institutions will also exchange gifts during a special ceremony, symbolizing the strengthening of friendship between the people of both nations.
To allow locals to learn more about the lively culture of the Philippines, there will be a number of performances throughout the day, from historical drama to live band music. Visitors can also attend a fun competition spotlighting the making of lumpia – a Filipino pastry resembling Taiwanese spring roll.
In addition, visitors will also find merchants offering Taiwanese versions of popular desserts such as shaved ice, ice cream, and cotton candy. Of course, Filipino deserts such as halo-halo, coconut cake, and sweet cake are also available at selected booths. The organizer will also be giving away a number of prizes, ranging from MP3 players to roundtrip ticket from Taipei to Manila.
