Shanghai Mayor Experiences Taipei's MRT
In the afternoon of April 7, Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng took a trip on the MRT to experience the convenience provided by the city’s mass transit system. He praised the staff of Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation for their superb management of the system and pointed out that Shanghai Metro can take this experience for reference.
Accompanied by Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin, the two mayors traveled from MRT Beitou Station to MRT Jiantan Station. Before the trip, Hau presented a special EasyCard with Han’s photo to the visiting mayor.
During the trip, Hau doubled as a tour guide and introduced Han to important scenic spots along the way. When the train stopped at the MRT Shilin Station, Hau remarked that this is the station closest to his home; he invited Mayor Han to come for a visit on his next trip to Taipei.
Mayor Han joked that this is the first time for him to take a train with so many journalists and reporters. He also took the opportunity to invite the press to come to the 2010 Shanghai World Expo and take Shanghai Metro to the exhibition venues.
Mayor Hau said he is pleased for the chance to show Mayor Han the MRT and the Beitou Incinerator. He also invited Han to return to Taipei for the 2010 Taipei International Flora Expo.
Shanghai's mayor will visit other municipalities for the remaining parts of his trip in Taiwan.
