The Department of Health (DOH) of Taipei City Government and the Health Foundation of Millenary Love jointly held a press conference on September 26 at the City Hall, hoping to raise the awareness of the metabolic syndrome.
In addition to 300 neighborhood magistrates, the attending dignitaries included Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin, Executive Yuan Department of Health Deputy Minister Hsiao Mei-ling and Uni-President Enterprises Corp. C.E.O Jason C.S. Lin.
The waistline for men and women should not exceed the range of 90cm and 80cm respectively; holding the waist size within the standard level will keep the metabolic syndrome at bay, according to the DOH.
Citing the data from the “2006 Ten Leading Cause of Death”, Hau indicated that the metabolic syndrome results in diseases which are principal factors responsible for death in Taiwan, including the heart disease, the blood vessel disease and the diabetes.
During the event, Hau measured waistline on the stage as a gesture of urging everyone to pay more attention to their fitness.
