Overseas Chinese from Melbourne Visit City Hall
Mayor Hau Lung-bin met with the representatives from the Australia Melbourne Chinese Association and the members of the Chinese Merchants and Purchasing Delegation at Taipei City Hall on June 22.
Speaking to the dignitaries, the mayor mentioned that Taipei is a safe city with friendly residents and the best food in the world. For delegates who are visiting Taipei for the first time, he urged them to take some time to enjoy the city’s beautiful attractions.
Hau stressed that following the introduction of nonstop flight between Taipei Songshan Airport and Shanghai Honggiao Airport, it takes only 80 minutes to travel between the two cities. The time is even shorter than traveling between Taipei and Kaohsiung. Taipei’s combined advantages – direct flight, copyright protection, established financial system, talented workers – attract International companies and research institutions to set up offices in town.
Chairman Liu Kuo-chiang remarked that it is nice to come home. Liu indicated that Taiwanese expats in Australia have been working on building closer ties with mainstream Australian society over the years. Their effort has achieved positive results. He looks forward to the Association’s second-generation members to continue with the task, collaborating with the city government to amplify the influence of Taiwanese Australians through city exchange.
