Mayor, First Lady Attend Charity Concert for Orphan Children
Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin arrived at the Taipei Arena to attend the 2010 More Love Charity Concert on July 31. The mayor joined 1,500 kids from seven orphanages and across Taiwan for a night of soothing musical performances.
At the concert, singers from the Taiwan Stream of Praise Music Ministries Foundation performed heartwarming gospel music to comfort the orphan children and to help them find new strength.
During his address, Hau shared with the audience his experience and encounter with Christianity. Even though he is not Christian, he recalled a prayer session headed by a minister from the Bread of Life Christian Church when he ran for mayor four years ago. At the gathering, he prayed that God would bestow wisdom upon him, helping him do good deeds and retain inner peace in the face of discord and stress. After assuming office, the mayor would confront setbacks and slanders by seeing them as challenges set before him by God to test his patience and resolve.
Hau also mentioned that with the exception of himself, the employees from his office – including secretaries and staff members – and a number of city agency heads happen to be Christians. Every Wednesday, they would organize noon prayer sessions at the office, praying for the well-being of Taipei City and the entire nation.
Following his speech, the mayor of Taipei accompanied First Lady Chou Mei-ching in handing out presents to the children and wishing them the best.
