LIGTI IS SELECTED AS MUSIC DIRECTOR OF TSO

After a year long search for a new Music Director, the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Taipei City Government announced on February 23,2005 that András Ligeti will be the newly appointed Music Director of the Taipei Symphony Orchestra.
The renowned Hungarian conductor and violinist Ligeti currently holds the position of Music Director with the Hungarian Symphony Orchestra, Matáv in Budapest. His extensive conducting career experiences include performances with the Hungarian Radio Orchestra, the Radio Orchestra of Berlin, the Symphony Orchestra of Berlin, BBC Philharmonic, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Opera North in Leeds and numerous other symphony orchestras throughout Europe and Asia.
Ligeti will assume his new position with The Taipei Symphony Orchestra beginning in September of 2005 with a performance of Verdi’s opera “La Traviata”. The performance of La Traviata will be a continuation of the Taipei Symphony’s tradition of annual opera performances; however, this year’s performance will mark the commencement of a new era in the history of this government-owned orchestra, having successfully completed its first ever international open search for a music director.
