Mayor Dines at Restaurant of 2009 Beef Noodle Champion

Mayor Hau Lung-bin enjoyed a hearty meal at “Ma La Tien Tang” (“Spicy Heaven”) restaurant, the winner of the 2009 Taipei International Beef Noodle Festival on January 11. He chatted with the storeowner and tried out the store’s claim to fame – steamed beef noodle.
The storeowner hails from Yunnan Province and has been running the restaurant for about four to five years. In 2009, she won the first place in the clear broth category of the festival’s beef noodle chef competition.
According to the storeowner, the victory resulted in more business for her shop. There were even visitors from other municipalities (as well as those from neighboring countries such as Korea and Japan) who came to the restaurant to have a taste of the award-winning beef noodle.
On the topic of US beef products, the mayor stressed that the city’s opposition to US offal, ground beef, and spinal cord is in the interest of maintaining a safe eating environment in the city.
He expressed his gratitude to the importers and storeowners who participated in the campaign organized by the city government to help safeguard the health of local residents.
