Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the award ceremony for outstanding volunteer patrol squads on December 23. This year’s appraisal had a total of 302 entries, and 58 of them were awarded. On behalf of the city government, Mayor Hau himself presented a trophy to the representative from the winning groups.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hau expressed his gratitude more than once to the award recipients, for they collaborated with the police department to keep the city safe and secure.
Citing his experience of joining volunteer groups to patrol the streets, Hau said the volunteer patrol squad have multiple positive impacts, including uniting the community members and strengthening the crime reporting system.
The mayor also pledged to offer equipments and other necessary supports to the volunteers, encouraging them to continue sharing in the heavy workload of police officers.
