The 2010 LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) Rights Movement series, organized by the Department of Civil Affairs (DCA), concluded with a gathering at the Red House on August 21. The program included a special screening of the 2009 film Prayers for Bobby and a forum on communication issues between LGBT individuals and their parents. This year marks the 11th anniversary of LGBT rights promotion campaigns organized by the city government. Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the seminar on Saturday to show his support for the movement. Speaking at the event, Hau pointed out he expected Taipei City to become the most LGBT-friendly city in Asia. Recalling how emotionally moved he was when he witnessed San Francisco’s pride parade for the first time over ten years ago, Hau believes that respecting differences in sexual orientations is both basic human values and basic human rights. He also encouraged the participating dignitaries to offer their suggestions, allowing city officials to learn more about the needs of the LGBT community and helping the public sector improve services provided to these individuals.
