Mayor Attends EasyCard Corp Tenth Anniversary Celebration
At the EasyCard Corporation’s tenth anniversary celebration on March 28, Mayor Hau Lung-bin announced that cardholders can start using the EasyCard for small amount purchases at a number of stores across Taiwan starting April 1.
The mayor remarked that he is very pleased to attend the event celebrating the tenth birthday of the company. He also expressed his gratitude to the Sean Lien for taking over the position of the company’s chairperson.
Hau praised Chairperson Lien for achieving three major goals within one-and-a-half years, including the return of the corporation to the black, the release of co-branded EasyCard/credit cards, and the addition of the e-Wallet function to the card.
He also took the opportunity to thank Ting Shou-chung, Alex Fai, Tsai Cheng-yuan, Lai Shyh-bao, and other legislators for supporting the bill permitting the EasyCard to offer e-Wallet functions.
President Ma Ying-jeou, who also attended the celebrations, pointed out that he is very happy to see that the EasyCard Corporation accomplished so much within a decade. He recalled that in 2006, EasyCard was growing by roughly 1 million cards each year. When Hau became the mayor, the number of EasyCards issued each year reached 2.5 million. As of today, the total number of EasyCards in circulation has exceeded 18.4 million.
According to the EasyCard Corporation, the new e-Wallet function will be available starting April 1. The card will be accepted at over 24 major commercial establishments and 10,000 stores across the island, from restaurants to movie theaters. The new convenience provided by the card will open up a new era, freeing individuals from the burden of spare changes and coins.
