To promote the 2010 Taipei International Garden and Horticulture Exposition (Taipei Intl Flora Expo) to potential Japanese visitors, the Department of Information and Tourism (TPEDOIT) organized a campaign to promote the event in Tokyo starting this September.
The first event of the campaign took place at Tokyo Midtown on September 15. Targeting young females between the age of 20 and 30, TPEDOIT invited Taiwanese actress Kwei Lun-mei and Japanese actress Minami Akina to serve as the campaign’s spokespersons.
According to TPEDOIT Chief Secretary Hsueh Chiu-huo, Taipei City is proud of its convenient public transportation system, low crime rates, and friendly residents. He believes that the city is an ideal travel destination for the Japanese public, and invites the audience to visit Taipei.
Hsueh pointed out that the stereotypical image of Taiwan for the Japanese public is a place for shopping, food, and foot massage. While Taiwan has always been popular for young Japanese female travelers, TPEDOIT hopes to promote Taipei’s image as a friendly and “comfortable” city. He believes that the upcoming horticulture expo in 2010 would be an ideal opportunity.
For 10 days starting on September 14, promotional vans carrying the poster of Kwei and the horticulture expo will patrol the streets of Tokyo, providing outdoor mobile advertising of the event. In addition, ads of the expo will appear on subways, magazines, and the Internet during the month of September.
