Maokong Gondola to Reopen at the End of March
At a press conference on March 17, Mayor Hau Lung-bin announced that the Maokong Gondola will reopen on Tuesday, March 30. Furthermore, on each day between March 23 and 28, the City will offer 10,000 passengers the opportunity to take a free ride on the gondola.
According to the mayor, the 4.03-kilometer cable car system is the longest of its kind in Taiwan. In addition, it is also the most affordable gondola – individuals can make a roundtrip by spending only NT$100.
The mayor stressed that the reopening of the Maokong Gondola is sure to bring a new wave of tourists. To prepare for the potential influx of visitors, the city government has worked on the enhancement of public facilities in the area. In addition to establishing a new Visitor Information Center, there is also a water fountain area next to the Zoo Mall, as well as a musical clock and a camphor tree hiking trail.
During the special opening dates between March 23 and 28, visitors who wish to take the Maokong Gondola can take a number slip from the dispensers at either Maokong Gondola Taipei Zoo Station or Maokong Station. Each number slip will indicate the “time slot”. Passengers will not have to wait in line – to board the gondola, simply come to the gondola stations during the allocated time.
To welcome tourists back to Maokong, Taipei City Office of Commerce has organized a series of activities, including special discount passes. The discount pass include a selection of coupons from local merchants, as well as gondola ticket allowing two rides on the facility, zoo bus ticket, and ticket for the upcoming 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition.
The special discount pass comes in two different denominations, each with a limited print of 1,000 copies. Individuals can preorder the discount pass between March 22 and 29 at the following Chinese website: http://www.twmaokong.net/
