The Taipei City Animal Protection Office today (April 11) partnered with the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation and the Taipei City Public Transportation Office to host the “Dog Spring Outing” event at the Jingqin Dog Off-Leash Area, featuring interactive experiences for pet owners. Mayor Chiang,Wan-an traveled to the venue on a dog-friendly Metro train and dog-friendly bus, personally engaging with pet owners and their dogs while experiencing Taipei’s pet-friendly facilities. Mayor Chiang,Wan-an said the Taipei City Government continues to mark International Pet Day, with this year (2026) being the fourth “Dog Spring Outing” event, featuring the Jingqin Dog Off-Leash Area. He noted that Taipei will soon have 23 dog parks. The city’s fourth dog sports park, Baohu Dog Sports Park in Neihu District, is completed and will open in May. Public support was also secured in March to develop a new dog off-leash area at Jiao 5, Jiao 6 Park in Songshan District, offering more spaces for dog walking and exercise across the city. At least 100 pet owners and their dogs joined today’s event, taking part in interactive challenges such as the “Pet Etiquette Challenge” and “Pawsome Mini Journey.” Participants received instant photo souvenirs, posed at the animal-friendly backdrop for photos and check-ins, and collected pet outing gift packs, enjoying a lively and rewarding weekend together. Taipei continues to strengthen its pet welfare policies. This year, registered Taipei residents can apply for pet insurance subsidies, and subsidies for dog and cat spay and neuter procedures have been increased. The city also offers free “Pet Academy” courses for the public. The Taipei City Animal Protection Office reminds owners to uphold responsible pet management. When taking pets outdoors, proper safety measures such as leashes, carriers, or strollers should be used to ensure their safety.
