Exhibition for Martial Arts Movie Fans

Characters from 'wuxia' pupet shows at the exhibition
The “My Martial Arts World Exhibition” kicked off at the Taipei Story House on June 10. The exhibition is designed for fans of the martial arts genre and will last until October 15. With the approach of summer vacation, the Taipei Story House is offering fans both young and old a chance to relive the exciting experience of the martial arts world – also known as “wuxia”. Through the years, the martial arts genre has attracted a huge following around the world and has a presence across several media, including newspapers, novels, comic books, movies, sitcoms, and even videogames. The exhibition will help visitors resurrect their memories of long forgotten images. At the entrance of the exhibition hall, the first thing visitors will see is the display of real weapons which often appear in martial arts movies and novels. They will also see excerpts of newspaper columns from several decades ago, materials that started the trend of “wuxia” and martial arts genre. The exhibition also displays literature from several “master” writers of this genre. For the young and e-generation who grew up in the midst of the video game culture, the display of old martial arts movie posters and hand puppets (from old shows to the “Pili” puppet shows of today) will provide the necessary tools to help them connect the past and the present of “wuxia” in Taiwan. Gamers who were exposed to the martial arts world via playing online kung-fu games or through watching Ang Lee’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” will find the link to over half-a-decade’s worth of fist-fighting entertainments.
