On May 24, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin embarked on an inspection tour at the Shuangyuan Interception Station and attended a briefing session by Sewerage Systems Office (SSO) Director Lee Men-yen.
The topic of the presentation covered the progress of improvement works implemented at the Station and the challenges facing river revitalization efforts.
According to Director Lee, the agency relocated the interception facility from outdoor space to a sheltered chamber, helping to cut maintenance cost. Moreover, the addition of monitoring and deodorization systems strengthened the overall efficiency of the wastewater control mechanism.
Following works on the pipe circuit, the agency expects the average volume of intercepted wastewater per day will increase from 100,000 tons to 144,000 tons. Above all, the upgraded facilities offer more “protection” for the station’s front pool, limiting the impact of sewage and odor from neighboring markets.
Hau remarked that the Shuangyuan Interception Station has had a positive impact upon Tamsui River’s revitalization efforts. He thanked the staff members of SSO for their hard work.
Aside from strengthening wastewater treatment facilities, Hau also reiterated that the city government determination in promoting the Blue Highway, encouraging more children to take cruises along the Tamsui River and to attend corresponding environmental education classes.
