During a press conference on September 29, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin led the dignitaries comprising of Department of Labor (DOL) Commissioner Su Yin-kuei and the Taipei Food and Beverage Industry Labor Union President Lin Chin-cheng to kick off the second King of Chefs Contest along with the “2009 Taipei International King of Chefs Invitational Tournament”.
According to Hau, this year’s designated ingredients for the cook-off included the filet mignon, the mackerel and the ostrich meets originating from Taiwan. The diversity of food materials offered great challenges to the contestants, added Hau.
Hau said despite his lack of professional culinary skills, he enjoy tasting delicious food from around the world. The delicacies in Taipei boasted the fusion of international flavors and the renovation of traditional courses. Priding itself as a gourmet capital, food has always been one of Taipei’s advantages to attract tourists.
The finals of King of Chefs Contest will take place between October 9 and October 12 at the Taipei Show Hall 2. Apart from that, the invitation tournament will be held at October 12. The one-day event attracted top-notch cooks from Japan, Singapore, China, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
