Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the opening ceremony of the 2009 Intelligent Cities ICT Forum on September 22. He remarked that Taipei City has been working hard on implementing its visions of building an “Intelligent City” and “Cyber City.”
Before the participants of the event, Hau pointed out that Taipei City is currently working on four major applications that take advantage of the city’s strong IT background. These include: (Fiber to the Home) FTTH deployment for 400,000 households; MOTA (Map of Taipei Amusements – a city guide service that can be accessed via mobile device); the 1999 Citizens Hotline; and the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), allowing users to look up the latest road information.
In addition to the members of Asian Network of Major Cities 21 (ANMC21), foreign dignitaries attending the 2009 Intelligent Cities ICT Forum included the deputy mayor of Vilnius City (Lithuania) Gintautas Babravicius, officials from the city of Gold Coast (Australia), and Cisco Asia Region President Christopher Khang.
The mayor expressed his gratitude to all the participants of the forum. He remarked that Taipei is a friendly and safe city; it is also the city with the most creativity in the Chinese world. He invited all the foreign guests to try out the great-tasting cuisines in the city.
