Fare Discount Extended for MRT Wenshan-Neihu Line

During the press conference on December 1, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin announced that the city government will continue to offer fare discounts for travels on the MRT Wenshan-Neihu Line during the first half of 2010.
The city government currently offers a 36-percent discount on fares for passengers using the MRT Wenshan-Neihu Line. This offer, which took effect on July 25, was set to expire on December 31.
Under the new policy beginning on January 1, passengers will continue to enjoy the 36-percent discount. However, the discount is applicable ONLY to trips (or portions of a trip) made on the MRT Wenshan-Neihu Line; the discount for rides on other MRT lines remains at 20 percent.
The new policy will last until June 30, 2010.
According to Tsay Huei-sheng, the president of Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC), the City spends roughly NT$34 million a month to implement the discount policy. With the new policy, fare prices – especially for trips that involve transfers between different MRT lines – will be affected by factors such as travel distance and the number of transfers. Tsay promised that the company will adopt fare calculation formula that is more favorable to passengers.
