Taipei City Government organized a presentation at the Grand Hyatt on the development project for the Taipei IT Town and Parking Lot on November 18.

During the opening address, Mayor Hau Lung-bin remarked that he is glad to see that so many investors are interested in helping the city government to create a Taipei IT Town that could rival Akihabara in Japan.

The mayor introduced the plot of land to the audience, noting that it is conveniently located in the downtown district of Taipei, at the corner of Civic Boulevard and Jinshan N. Road. With a total area of 2,687 pings, the land neighbors the well-known Guanghua Digital Plaza, a major six-story shopping center for computer and IT products.

Currently, the land is being used as a car park. However, the mayor believes that by collaborating with the private sector, the entire area has the potential to become a major center for IT-related operations in Taiwan.

According to Hau, the entire project will be executed under the Build-operate-transfer (BOT) arrangement. The contract is effective for 50 years, and the operator of the IT Town will be given priority for contract renewal if they show outstanding management record during the period.

The City estimated that the new IT Town requires approximately NT$2.7 billion in investment from the private sector. The facility is expected to create 625 job opportunities and boost local competitiveness by connecting with nearby resources such as National Taipei University of Technology, Huashan Cultural Park, Taipei Brewery, and Guanghua Digital Plaza.
