Taipei City Mayor Hau Lung-bin announced the opening of Taipei City Geotechnical Engineering Office during a ceremony on January 28. The office is the first public sector that is specifically responsible for hillside management. DED Commissioner Chen Hsiung-we presided over the inauguration ceremony of the agency’s new director Lin Yu-I following the unveiling event. Being one of the affiliated agencies of the DED, the office will manage administrative matters ranging from hillside conservation, land development to recreation facilities management. It contained business sections including planning, forest recreation, slope conservation and slope land construction management. According to Hau, the City’s hillside is approximately 15,000 hectares, taking up to 55 percent of the city’s land.
