Commemorating Lunar New Year with Tug o’ War
Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin joined city government employees and the students of Taipei Jingmei Girls High School at a New Year greeting session at city hall on February 22.
Hau expressed his gratitude to city workers for their support, making it possible for the administration to meet and overcome challenges over the past three years.
According to the mayor, city agencies have displayed a remarkable team spirit, evident through successful endeavors ranging from the Tamsui River revitalization project to the 2009 Summer Deaflympics.
“Things have truly changed in Taipei City, and I am grateful for the companionship you have offered me on this journey,” noted the mayor.
Following the session, Hau entrusted the representatives of Taipei Jingmei Girls High School’s tug-of-war team with the city flag at a flag presentation ceremony. The young athletes will be attending the 2010 World Tug-of-war Championships in Italy on February 23.
The mayor later arrived at the Taipei City Council to greet and offer well wishes to city councilors. During his address, Hau remarked that there will be two major events for the city government in 2010 – participation in the Shanghai World Expo and organization of the Taipei International Flora Expo. Both occasions will give Taipei the spotlight on the international stage. He hopes that city councilors can lend their support, helping to make these events successful.
