Hakon Liu, the director of Miss Kicki, embarked on a tour with Mayor Hau Lung-bin on December 2, revisiting filming locations in the city. Over 70 percent of the film was shot in Taipei.
The movie is the collaboration between Taiwan and Sweden. It has been shown at major international film festivals around the world, including the Heidelberg International Film Festival, the Stockholm International Film Festival, and the Pusan International Film Festival.
The cast include top actors from both countries: Pernilla August, Ludwig Palmell, Huang He, Eric Tsang, Tsai Chen-nan, and Ken Lin. Many scenes in the movie were filmed at well-known locations across Taipei, including a number of night markets, department stores, and even Taipei 101.
Liu, the nephew of deceased writer Liu Hsia, grew up in Taipei until the age of 17. He noted that every city has its own set of characteristics – especially Taipei; this city is unique enough to be a main character in its own rights. He said he is glad of the opportunity to introduce his hometown to audiences around the world through this movie.
When asked if he has plans to film another movie in Taipei, Liu remarked that he hopes to do so if he has a chance, because there are many beautiful places in the city he has yet to capture in his film.
Hau pointed out that Taipei is a city of culture and creativity in the Chinese world. From the towering Taipei 101 to the ancient Longshan Temple, international producers will find the city to be an interesting place for their films. The Taipei Movie Commission provides assistance and subsidies to filmmakers shooting in Taipei.
