Elementary School Students Tour Traffic Information Center

Mayor Hau Lung-bin presided over the opening ceremony of the new Taipei Traffic Information Center on December 28. He showed a group of young visitors from Jingxing Elementary School around the new facility, demonstrating the multimedia contents and trying out a virtual ride simulating the city’s riverside bike routes.
Speaking before the audience, the mayor pointed out that Taipei’s traffic and transportation-related services has seen significant developments over the years. The city has taken an active stance by setting up the intelligent transportation information network, hoping that the system will offer the public easy access to the latest updates, from parking space availability to the expected arrival time of buses.
In addition, the traffic information system also plays an important role in the case of major accidents, allowing city officials and traffic authorities to make appropriate responses with the newest information.
The mayor took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the staff and officials of the transportation and IT departments for their efforts. He stressed that their work and contributions ensure the effectiveness of the system.
The visiting students took turn trying out various equipments at the center, including EasyCard readers (identical to the ones installed at parking lot entrances) and digital photo machines. The Taipei Traffic Information Center is located in the same building as the city’s Traffic Control Center.
Hau pointed out that the Traffic Information Center offers visitors great opportunities to learn more about Taipei’s traffic environment, and hopes that more people will come and visit.
