King of Chefs Winners Honored at Closing Ceremony

The winners of the 2009 King of Chefs Tournament received their awards on stage at the Taipei Show (TWTC Hall 2) on October 12. For the first time, the cooking tournament accepted the entry of foreign teams, attracting chefs from Hong Kong, Macau, PRC, Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Mayor Hau Lung-bin remarked that the King of Chefs Tournament will continue in the future, hoping to attract even more teams from abroad, carrying out international exchanges and bringing Taipei’s culinary culture to a new level.
He congratulated the winning teams, noting that the glory on the stage is possible only through years of practice and hard work. The mayor praised the chefs for their impressive culinary skills and prompt judgments during the matches.
The mayor said his only regret was being unable to try out the wonderful dishes created by the master chefs. He hopes he can serve as a panelist in future tournaments, though he only wants to taste all the great food but not having to rate the contestants.
The title of this year's "King of Chefs" went to the local team (Taiwan Tongde). The teams from Malaysia and Japan won second and third place, respectively. The mayor presented the trophies to the representatives of the winning teams and handed the certificates of gratitude to the sponsors, panelists, and guests.
