The Department of Cultural Affairs (DOCA) organized a special screening session for Hear Me, a Taiwanese film about the love story of a hearing-impaired athlete. Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the session on September 17 to watch the movie with the guests.
During his address, the mayor congratulated the staff on box office sales exceeding NT$10 million. He noted that this movie is another local film well on its way to become a blockbuster like Cape Number 7. According to the mayor, the audience pouring into theaters to watch this film is still growing – even after three weeks.
Speaking before guests from both city hall and city council, Hau indicated that the screening was a way for him to say ‘thank you’ to the people that worked hard to make the 2009 Deaflympics a success. Hau said the Games play an important role in promoting Taipei City to the international audience.
The mayor hopes that the movie will continue to shine in box office sales and allow more people to see and experience the beauty of Taipei City. People watching this film should feel the warmth of ‘being embraced’, since the success of both the Deaflympics and the movie brings out the overwhelming sense of caring and compassion within all of us.
Hear Me, a collaboration between the movie industry and Deaflympics, is a movie filmed in Taipei City. Through the movie, the audience will find scenes with familiar sights taken at street corners of Roosevelt Road, Heping E. Road, Xinsheng S. Road, and other locations across Taipei.
