Longshan Temple Commemorates 270th Anniversary of Founding

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin joined representatives from the local community and other dignitaries to commemorate the 270th anniversary of the founding of the Longshan Temple on December 14.
Speaking to the audience in Taiwanese, the mayor praised Longshan Temple for being one of most renowned temple in the city, serving as a center of religion and development for the local community. The temple authority also plays an active role in promoting social, religion, and tourism services. He expressed his gratitude to the temple authority on behalf of Taipei City Government and the residents of the city.
The first event marking the anniversary is the inauguration of the renovated Yuan Tong Shrine and bell tower in the morning of December 14. Dignitaries attending the event include President Ma Ying-jeou, Vice Premier Eric Chu, and Deputy Mayor Lee Yong-ping.
Following the scripture recital, the President offered flowers, incense, and fresh fruits to the deities. To commemorate the occasion, the World Fellowship of Buddhists in Thailand donated a golden statue of Gautama Buddha to the temple.
Longshan Temple is holding a series of activities between December 14 and December 20 to celebrate the occasion, including traditional art performances, scripture recital sessions, and a water lantern ceremony.
