Taiwan-Japan International Exchange Programs Carried Out by Taipei RiXin Elementary School
In recent years, Taipei RiXin Elementary School has been proactively involved in international activities. Among all the activities, it is the fifth year since year 2005 for running the Drawing Peace and Teddy Bear Student Exchange programs with students in Kanazawa, Japan. In these cultural exchange activities, students from Taipei and Kanazawa participate in the Project Art Miles together, in which, folktales from both Taiwan and Kanazawa are drawn on pieces of three square meter canvas. In addition, both schools send teddy bears to each others and then share the teddy bear caring experience in video conferences via internet.
During New Year period in year 2009, Kazuhisa Shimizu from Japan Kanazawa National Center for Teachers' Development and Takahiro Kato, an associate professor of Kanazawa University, joined by five other teachers visited Taiwan and had a tour at Taipei RiXin Elementary School on January the fifth. Both parties had great impressions during this meeting..
Upon accepting the invitation from Ishikawa-ken Educational Technology Research Association and Shijima Elementary School, teachers and sixteen students from RiXin Elementary School visited Shijima Elementary School in Kanazawa, Japan from January 9th to 13th. They shared Chinese culture to Japan by introducing and teaching eighty local sixth graders how to make adorable dolls with Chinese knotting techniques.
RiXin Elementary School chose traditional arts as a basis of the development of their art education. Teacher Wei guides students into creating various unique accessories with traditional Chinese knots. The accessories were very popular among their school’s teachers, students, and guests. This visit to Japan was widely welcomed by teachers and students in Shijima Elementary School and was extensively covered on their local newspapers, which had made another excellent example of international exchange of Taiwan.
