MRT Wenshan-Neihu Line Discount Period Extended
During a press conference on March 17, Mayor Hau Lung-bin announced the city government’s decision to extend the discount period of MRT Wenshan-Neihu Line. The original discount period was to conclude on June 30.
All MRT passengers using EasyCards will enjoy 36% discount only for their trips (or portions of a trip) made on the Wenshan-Neihu Line.
According to President Tsai Huel-sheng of Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC), statistics from the past several months show that the discount each passenger receives for travel on the MRT Wenshan-Neihu Line averages NT$3.46.
He expects that for the new period starting on July 1, an average of 203,000 riders per day will benefit from the discount policy. The savings from the discount amounts to an average of NT$21 million per month.
The mayor cited the contractors’ delay in refitting 51 sets of MRT trains for the new system as one of the main reasons for the City to extend the discount period. In addition, the city government will assess the average performance of the line over a prolonged period to ensure its reliability and availability.
