HK East Asian Game Medalists Recognized at Award Ceremony

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin presided over two ceremonies taking place at the press conference following the city administration meeting on December 29.
During the first session, the mayor presented awards to the city’s athletes who attended the 2009 Hong Kong East Asian Game. Speaking before the athletes, Hau praised them for outstanding performances at the international sports competition.
Hau also cited the story of the gold medalist Cheng Wan-jung, who won women’s 400-meter individual medley at the game. According to the mayor, the female swimmer suspended her schooling temporarily, for she decided to focus on trainings and to make a breakthrough on her career. Hau remarked that Cheng’s determination and tremendous willpower are worthy of imitation from other athletes.
Following that, Hau met with representatives from the typhoon-struck schools at six cities/counties in southern Taiwan, offering the young kids brand-new laptops and books. According to the city officials, this donation comprises books and IT equipments with the total price up to NT$40million. All of the goods expected to arrive at the 126 disaster-affected schools before January, 2010.
