Mayor Kicks off the Chrysanthemum Show

The 2009 Shilin Presidential Residence Chrysanthemum Exhibition opened to the public on November 28. Running from November 28 to December 13, the 16-day flower show is a once-a-year autumn feast for flower enthusiasts, and a warm-up celebration of the 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin praised the flora festival for its originality and ceaselessly progress throughout the years. He mentioned that for the past seven years, a total of 300,000 people have attended the show. This large turnout implied many locales have a taste for horticulture and culture activities.
He also reminded the public that the city will be holding the Taipei Intl’ Flora Expo in 2010, an exhibition that is considered the Olympics among flower shows. Serving as one of the outdoor pavilions for the flora festival, the 92-hectare land area in the vicinity of Yuanshan will be transformed into a large flower field, which no doubt will offer breath-taking view to the visitors.
Following the Chrysanthemum show, the Yangmingshan Flower Festival and the Zhuzihu Calla Lilly Festival will continue the flower season in turn. Hau encouraged the residents to come and immerse themselves in the charm of chrysanthemums.
