11 members from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) delegation met with Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin at the city hall on November 17. Both sides exchanged opinions on issues ranging from transportation, culture development to living in Taipei.
Hau also took the opportunity to promote Taipei to the visiting guests, encouraging them to arrange more trips to Taipei in the future.
Hau indicated that Taipei is a safe city with friendly residents. In addition to the famed tourist destinations such as National Palace Museum and Taipei 101, Taipei also has the 24-hour bookstores offering entertainments to unsleeping travelers. Moreover, the city could provide international visitors authentic tastes of different kinds of cuisines; Hau said he believes Taipei’s delicacies are diverse enough to please the choosiest appetite.
The mayor also introduced the unique culture on the MRT. It included the prohibition on food, drink, smoking and littering inside the MRT system, the habit of lining up at the platform and the courtesy of yielding seats to people with special needs.
The visiting delegates asked questions concerning the County Magistrate and City Mayor Elections, the relation between the city government and the city council, and the education system. Following the visit at the city hall, the group will enjoy tour comprising the Sun Moon Lake and the Taiwan Handicraft Promotion Center.
