Maokong Ready for Tourists Inflow
In preparation for the reopening of the Maokong Gondola, Taipei City Government Information and Tourism Department (TPEDOIT) established a task force in 2009. The group is in charge of transforming the area into a tourist attraction by expanding the facilities and offering better travel services.
Steps taken by the committee include the establishment of visitor centers at the Maokong Gondola Taipei Zoo Station and the Maokong Station; the addition of two tourist information centers; the renovation of nine tourist information kiosks; the enhancement of Zoo Mall’s exterior walls; and the decoration of tourist buses.
The task force also met with members from local community colleges, development associations, environmental protection organizations, and farmers’ associations to devise six tour packages. Each of the suggested trips will show visitors Maokong’s different faces, ranging from Chinese tea appreciation, hiking events, tours of religious centers, to historical monuments.
The promotion campaign is realized with the help of community volunteers. They will act as tour guides at these hiking trails (Camphor Tree Trail and Pothole Trail), accompanying tourists on the trip and sharing information about the history, the culture, and the environment of the Maokong area.
During regular weekdays, visitors who want to join guided tours should make reservations beforehand; on Saturdays and Sundays, there will be scheduled tours starting at 10AM and 2PM respectively.
