Taipei City Fire Department (TCFD) held an award ceremony for the winners of this year’s Golden Dragon Award on January 18 at the Fire Department auditorium. The event also celebrates the upcoming Fire Prevention Day (January 19).
This year, 22 winners emerged from a pool of 3,000 firefighters and volunteers. The contributions of these firefighters and the participation of the private sector are important to the success of the agency, helping TCFD win first place for six consecutive years in the nationwide evaluation on disaster prevention and rescue capabilities.
Mayor Hau Lung-bin noted that TCFD has shown outstanding performance in its operations over the years. Their ability and efficiency help reduce the damages to the properties and lives of residents.
Under the leadership of Fire Commissioner Hsiung Kuang-hua, TCFD won the Executive Yuan’s Government Service Quality Award in 2009. The fire inspection laboratory of TCFD also received the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation in August of the same year.
The mayor took the opportunity to remind the public to pay attention to fire safety, especially during the winter season. Residents should take extra care in lighting, heating, and appliance use.
