The Department of Information Technology (DOIT) has collaborated with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) in holding a carbon reduction raffle. Everyone will have a chance at entering the raffle by utilizing public transportation (MRT, bus, YouBike, and more)!
During the press conference at the MRT Zhongxiao Fuxing Station on March 25, Mayor Hau Lung-bin introduced the contest to the audience and demonstrated how to check the amount of carbon emission reduced by accessing one’s EasyCard through the MOTA (Map of Taipei Amusement) kiosks at MRT Stations.
The mayor joined EasyCard President, representatives from Microsoft and Intel, and high school students at the ribbon cutting ceremony, signifying the start of the contest and the resolve to “cut” carbon emission.
According to the organizers, individuals can place their EasyCards on a sensor embedded on the MOTA kiosks to find out their contribution to protecting our environment. The database keeps track of activities such as riding the MRT, taking public buses, and renting YouBike to determine the amount of carbon emission reduced.
The contest comprises four phases:
Phase I: March 25 – May 31 (Raffle date: June 11)
Phase II: June 1 – July 31 (Raffle date: August 11)
Phase III: August 1 – September 30 (Raffle date: October 11)
Phase IV: October 1 – November 30 (Raffle date: December 10)
During each phase, EasyCards with carbon reduction total among the top five percentile will be entered into the raffle. Fifteen lucky winners will win VIP EasyCards, which allows the cardholder to enjoy a year’s worth of MRT rides free of charge! Other prizes include admission tickets to the Taipei Water Park and the upcoming Taipei International Flora Expo.
The MOTA kiosks are located at the following MRT stations: Zhongxiao Fuxing, Zhongxiao Dunhua, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, and Taipei City Hall. Visitors can also access the kiosks on the first floor of city hall and inside the East Metro Mall Visitor Information Center.
