Mayor Visits Centenarian on the Eve of Double Ninth Festival

To pay his respect to senior citizens, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin visited a centenarian living in Taipei on October 26. Accompanied by Department of Social Affairs (DOSW) Commissioner Shih Yu-ling, the mayor presented gifts to the old lady, wishing her a happy Double Ninth Festival.
The centenarian, surnamed Tsai, is 102 years old. The mother of ten children, Mrs. Tsai currently lives with her family, which includes members spanning five generations. Even though she lives on the third floor, she climbs the staircase by herself and walk at the local park twice a day. Her son noted that Mrs. Tsai rarely use her National Health Insurance Card because she maintains a health lifestyle.
Hau remarked that Mrs. Tsai exercises everyday and is very close to her family. He pointed out that this kind of lifestyle not only serves as a model for senior citizens, but also demonstrates the spirit of a healthy city. He could tell from the interaction between the family members that having a warm and caring family is the key to good health.
Mrs. Tsai is very happy to meet the mayor, greeting him by singing two of her favorite songs in Japanese. The mayor presented the elder with gifts and senior citizens grants from both the city government and central government.
According to DOSW, there are currently 235 centenarians living in Taipei City. Among this group of people, 156 are female and 79 are male. On the eve of Double Ninth Festival, the centenarians will receive gifts and senior citizens grants from district officials.
