Internet voting for the “2010 Specialty Night Market Selection” – an event organized by the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications – will end in early August. On August 9, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin visited Huaxi Street Night Market to garner votes for the well known tourist attraction in Wanhua District.
There are three night markets representing Taipei City in this national contest: Shilin Night Market, Huaxi Street Night Market, and Ningja Street Night Market. In an effort to promote these night markets to potential voters, Hau dropped by individual stalls to shake hands with shoppers and chat with vendors.
According to Hau, online voting will end on August 15. Each individual can cast up to one vote per day for their favorite night market. “Show your love for Taipei City by voting for the city’s night markets at the internet voting event!” shouted the mayor.
Surrounded by the hospitable food vendors, the mayor set aside time to sample a selection of local delicacies including boiled squid slices, pork thick soup, dan-tsu noodles, shrimp rolls, and more.
The management of Huaxi Night Market also established a dedicated voting area inside the marketplace. Individuals can utilize the computers at the voting area to vote in the contest. The first 100 individuals to cast their votes at the designated area will receive a free cup of ice tea.
