Taipei Hits the Stage with a Flourish
The hot tandem of July and August forms Taipei's most boisterous season of activities. The many local theatres and other performing-arts troupes, large and small, all hit the stage with energized creativity, making it a truism that in summertime“all Taipei's a stage.”Our theme for this issue is“Taipei Hits the Stage,”introducing the city's many stages—the troupes that are on them and what they have invented for you. The arts in this city are expressed with passion. Come and see!
First to step out into the klieg lights, in early July, is the 2010 Taipei Children's Arts Festival, followed out to center stage by the 2010 Taipei Arts Festival and then, following quickly from the wings, the 2010 Taipei Fringe Festival. This triumvirate will present a vivid taste of the beauty that is art expressed, with something for every age group and every preference.
The 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition, this year's diva of Taipei-staged events, will step into the limelight in late autumn, and in our feature we give you a sneak preview of the exhibition facilities at the expo's Yuanshan Park Area and Fine Arts Park Area. A special spotlight is shone on Celebrity's House, celebrating Asia's beloved diva of song, the elegant and much-missed Teresa Teng.
If you'd enjoy a little romance under the starry night skies, be sure to join the passionate crowds at 228 Peace Memorial Park for Taipei International Jazz Season rendezvous, swaying in the gentle breezes along with the sweet tones created by some of the best players from the globe's many corners. Then cap this experience off with some satisfying sessions of history and culture edification at two grand exhibitions,“Legends of Heroes – The Heritage of the Three Kingdoms Era”and“Tibet – Treasures from the Roof of the World,”then head off for some youth-culture fun at the 2010 Comic Exhibition.
