City Reopens Qing Dynasty Historical Site

The Department of Cultural Affairs (DOCA) organized an inauguration ceremony for the “Bopiliao” on August 29. The historical site, located in Wanhua District, is known for a group of well-preserved buildings dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

The mayor noted that the renovation project for Bopiliao is a good example for conducting of historical site revitalization. In addition to allowing the new generation to learn about our past and preservation of historical buildings, the renovated complex will become a “new frontier” for city, attracting numerous art performance groups and exhibition organizers.

The dignitaries attending the ceremony included Deputy Mayor Wu Ching-ji, DOCA Commissioner Lee Yong-ping, actor Chen Song-yong, and city councilors.

In addition, the ceremony also marked the beginning of the Bopi Old Street Cultural Festival. During the period of the festival, there will be numerous seminars and events at Bopiliao, as well as the “Fusion Folks – Contemporary Art Exhibition” consisting of works by both foreign and local artists.

Located near Laosong Elementary School, Bopiliao is the largest and the most well-preserved historical site consisting of buildings from the Qing Dynasty in Taipei. Many scenes in Director Ho Hsiao-hsien’s Dust in the Winds (1986) were filmed at this location.
