TPL to Hold Book Swap Event
To give new life to used books, Taipei Public Library (TPL) will be organizing a book swap event on July 17. The government has designated the day as the National Book Exchange Day.
Residents can drop off used books at the 30 branches of the city library between June 1 and 30 in exchange for vouchers. These vouchers can be used for redeeming books from the main library on July 17.
However, TPL officials remind the public that the following books will not be eligible for trade:
1. Marked, torn, or smeared books
2. Books with copyright controversy
3. Textbooks
4. Government Publications
5. Promotional Materials
6. Computer books over five years old
Book swaps will be carried out on a one-for-one basis. The maximum number of books involved in a single exchange may not exceed twenty. Individuals who submit more than twenty books can use the remaining vouchers during subsequent swap sessions.
Four TPL branch libraries – Sanmin, Wenshan, Wanhua and Tianmu – will continue to offer book swaps after the event on National Book Exchange Day. Readers who want to trade books can drop them off at the abovementioned locations during business hours. Future book swaps will be held at the main library on the last Sunday of every month.
To learn more about the book exchange, please visit TPL’s Chinese website at http://www.tpml.edu.tw/ or call 2755-2823, ext. 2113. Fliers with info on the book swap are also available at all branches of the TPL.
