Chongqing Junior high school baseball team defeated U.S. Champions from East Texas to win Championship of Junior League World Series
Chinese Taipei Team formed by Taipei City’s Chongqing Junior High School baseball team on behalf of the Asia-Pacific champion competed in the 2010 Junior League Baseball World Series in the U.S. state of Michigan and won the championship.
Chinese Taipei Team played against US Team at 6:50 AM on Aug 22nd (Taipei Time). This championship game started out as a 0-0 tight until Texas scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, taking a 0-1 lead. However, with coach’s instruction, the Taiwanese team scored 4 runs in the sixth. Entering the seventh inning, Taiwan added a further five runs. With the final score 9-1, Taiwan Team defeated US team and won the championship.
Immediately after the baseball team won the championship, Mayor Hau Lung-bin and Education Department’s Commissioner Kang both phoned to congratulate. In fact, after Taiwan Team won the Asia-Pacific Region championship, Mayor Hau met with the team members and encouraged them to achieve further success. During training period, the Department of Education provided Tianmu Baseball Stadium as the team’s training field, and the mayor also visited to cheer the players there. The teenager players had completed the commitment of winning the Junior League Baseball World Series, which they made with the mayor.
The team’s strength has been proven once again with the achievement of championship. It is not only the glory of Taipei but also the glory of Taiwan to win 6 games in a roll during playing in the United States, showing the best result of Taipei City‘s baseball promotion in schools in recent years. Department of Education is awarding players training grants and also rewarding the coach, players, and school Physical Education funds for encourage the continuing development of school baseball team.
The baseball team achieving such a good result in this international competition is not only because of hard training everyday but also the encouragement and long term support from communities, parents, teachers and the Department of Education. The team’s further self-expectation is to continue to shine on the world stage in the future.
