Mayor Hau Lung-bin presented awards to the members of Chinese orchestra from Xingya Elementary School in recognition of the group's outstanding achievements at a number of domestic music contests. The ceremony took place at Taipei City Hall on April 12.
The team's award streak began with a win at the group category of the "Students Music Competition in Taipei" east district section. Following this victory, the Xingya Chinese orchestra represented Taipei City at the "National Students Music Competition".
At the competition, it defeated 16 teams from other municipalities and claimed first place in the "Chinese orchestra - north area" category and second place in the "instrumental chamber music" category.
The mayor pointed out that the members of the orchestra are not students from the same music class or music training program; the Chinese orchestra is their extracurricular activity.
He remarked that the success of these students is the result of the involvement of volunteer teachers and enthusiastic parents. Hau described the orchestra's outstanding performance as a successful example of the all-around education policy promoted by the city government.
