Taipei Broadcasting Station (TBS) has once again made international headlines, receiving the prestigious 2025 Gracie Awards from the Alliance for Women in Media (AWM) for the second consecutive year. The program Thousand Miles, Talks About Music stood out among global contenders to win the award for “Non-English Program – [Radio, Nationally Syndicated Non-Commercial],” demonstrating Taipei’s growing influence in global media and its vibrant cultural soft power.

Established in 1975 by the AWM, the “Gracie Awards” aims to highlight and recognize women’s creative contributions and remarkable accomplishments across various facets of the media and entertainment industries. This year’s winners, announced on March 25 via the official AWM website, include prominent figures such as rapper Megan Thee Stallion, actresses Kathy Bates and Cristin Milioti. Following last year’s win in the “Non-English Program – [Radio-Local]” category with Good Guoyue in Taipei, TBS raised the bar by entering the “[Radio, Nationally Syndicated Non-Commercial]” category. The program Thousand Miles, Talks About Music, produced and hosted by Mali Liu, was recognized for its exceptional production quality and meaningful content, earning high praise from the international judging panel.

According to TBS, this year’s Gracie Awards was presented to the program Thousand Miles, Talks About Music, hosted by Mali Liu. The submitted segment, titled “Music is Weapon,” was specially produced in response to “National Women Support Women Day”. Conducted through international interviews, the episode featured eight Ukrainian female composers who shared how they use music to bring comfort and healing, becoming a gentle yet resolute force of protection amid the chaos of war.

Host Mali Liu noted that these eight composers are all distinguished figures in the field of contemporary music and remain active on international stages, continuing to contribute to Ukraine through their art. She praised them as the most powerful expression of “female strength” among Ukrainian composers. Mali firmly believes that “behind every journey that spans a thousand miles lies a courageous story—one that touches the heart and celebrates the meaning of life.” This award-winning program offers firsthand interviews that not only highlight the composers’ exceptional musical expertise and artistic depth, but also convey their romantic spirit, sharp reflections on the current state of the world, and sincere yearning for peace.

TBS Director Shao-Chien Hu stated that since its launch in 2023, Thousand Miles, Talks About Music has introduced the inspiring life stories and musical journeys of musicians from around the world who now call Taiwan home, highlighting their contributions to the world of music. The program was also honored with the 59th Golden Bell Award for “Best Arts and Culture Program” in 2024. The program’s producer and host, Mali Liu, is a seasoned musician and media professional who currently teaches in a university music department. She is a four-time recipient of the prestigious Golden Bell Award and is widely recognized as an outstanding woman in media. The award-winning program is also syndicated internationally through “CITYPlus FM” in Malaysia and the “Chinese Radio Network” in New York, USA, using music as a bridge to raise awareness of global issues. This achievement not only reflects TBS’s commitment to cultural promotion but also demonstrates its growing connection with the international community.
